Long time no post.

I'm not so good at this updating lark but basically : work experience is going well, I'm getting used to the situation and coping with socialising with the patients much better. It's good fun but very tiring!!

GAMSAT results were out today:

Section I : 65
Section II : 75
Section III: 63
Overall : 67

Just waiting for news now - haven't heard from ANY unis yet and some friends have, which is irking me a touch!

Approaching people.

I should probably write on here more often. I'm actually -that- nervous and/or excited about 'doing' medicine that I have to restrain myself out of fear that all I'll write is 'Squeeeee'. That probably makes me an awesome medicine candidate, right? So - I'm not the MOST mature person ever, but we all have our quirks and methods!

Anyway, I was wondering what people's thoughts were on 'getting your medicine on' at people. I mean, I'm not a doctor. Or anyway medically qualified, however I do spend a lot of time absorbing the stuff, have bought so many books and digested them and have studied my families ailments meticulously. So anyway - I'm whimsical, too - does anyone else 'get their medicine on' at people? I was walking home the other day and the lass on the pavement infront of me had really severe in-toeing from her left leg. This is something I'd have seen in the past and just dismissed as 'weird' but I immediately thought about my sister who had this same thing and was diagnosed with muscular weakness and given insoles to correct her walking posture to fix the problem. So I asked if she knew she did it 'No'. Not seen anyone about it? 'No?' You should probably make an appointment..

I don't know if I did good, bad, or interfering.

Application

I logged onto UCAS tonight to make sure that everything at the people who are send its end were all in order and was greeted with the happy news that everything was completed today and sent. Have applied for Southampton, Swansea, Nottingham and Hull/York and now I am restlessly excited by the prospect of positive news. I know I meet all the pre-med requirements for Southampton so providing my statement was good enough to get me top 20% then I could have an offer of unconditional proportions before I am opening the socks from my Grandma at Xmas. That would be lovely, but nothing for granted of course - I know there plausibility of several entry cycles before I get an offer.

In other news, I was fairly miffed with my sister's school on Friday. She cut her knee open - quite a deep and wide cut. The medical staff (read: 'Nurse' with emphasis on the inverted commas) decided the sum total of their action was to tell her to wash it when she got home. Whoops, too late - it's infected. Spent the weekend mopping green pus out of it for her, but it seems like it hasn't got any nasty S.Aureus in it or anything more sinister.. Wouldn't be too hard for them to wipe it with a cloth dipped in TCP, would it?

This is not a test.

Okay, well it obviously is. But if I say it isn't, the power of suggestion will out, no?

So I stole this idea from the many people's blogs of this very nature I have been reading during my application and thought I'd join the bandwagon. Will probably contain accounts of my experience in the care environment, the application procedure and how mine is going, general thoughts on medicine, disease, the NHS, etc.

Hope you all have fun browsing.
